Starting September 8, 2026, Canada will apply counter-tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% on selected US-made products. If you shop from US retailers and ship through Shippsy, here is what you need to know.
Will Your Order Be Affected?
Buying from a US retailer does not automatically mean your item will be subject to these tariffs. The tariff only applies when a product meets both conditions:
- It appears on the Government of Canada’s list of affected products
- It was manufactured in the United States
The key factor is where the product was made, not where it was purchased or shipped from.
Manufactured Elsewhere? You’re in the Clear
Many products sold by US retailers are manufactured outside the United States. If a product falls into this category, it will not be affected by counter-tariffs, even if you bought it from a US store and had it shipped from a US address.
What to Do When Declaring Your Shipment
When declaring your shipment in the Shippsy portal, if you know the product was not manufactured in the United States, no additional action is required. You do not need to specify exactly where the item was made.

The Government of Canada maintains the official list of products subject to these counter-tariffs. You can view the complete list here to see if your purchase is included.
A Note on Duties and Taxes
Regular duties and taxes may still apply to your shipment separately from these counter-tariffs.
